MY GUIDING PHILOSOPHY: EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED, MAINTAIN SOME SORT OF BALANCE,
PUSH HARD AGAINST ADVERSE WINDS, AND DON'T TAKE YOURSELF TOO SERIOUSLY.

Dinners Galore

Sarah had a belated birthday dinner in South Carolina on the balcony of our vacation condo in Pawley’s Island.  We were lucky to have a coolish evening after a week of crazy heat. We broiled some excellent Black Angus steak, had a big salad and washed it down with a bottle of Joel Gott Cabernet Sauvignon.

Lulu and I also had a belated birthday party when we got back to D.C. hosted by Des and Nick at the amazing Maple Avenue Restaurant in Vienna (of the Virginia variety).

Our meal was accompanied by a mighty storm with apocalyptic thunder and lightning, howling wind and horizontal rain.  In spite of the elements, the food and service was superb.

 Soft shell crab

Pan-fried scallops with coconut risotto and ice cream!

We shared this delicious key lime pie and only
put on about 3 pounds each

And also back in D.C., I made dinner at home for our friend, Andrea.  It included chilled Vichyssoise soup, coconut shrimp curry and, to top it off, a chocolate soufflé made in accordance with an America’s Test Kitchen recipe that Regee had found.   Regee coached me on Skype and it came out perfectly.  Phew!

Meanwhile, back in D.C. I cooked dinner for Andrea

Vichyssoise soup from a Gourmet Cookbook recipe

Coconut shrimp curry and vegetables

Piece de resistance--chocolate soufflé made
according to Chef Regee’s directions on Skype!

Andrea gamely tries the soup et al
