Yesterday we headed down to Charleston. The great mansions of Charleston represented quite a change from our sea shanty beach community in Pawleys Island. It is a beautiful city; but as we know from recent events, the magnificent buildings hide another side of the culture and heritage down here.
We wandered around in 92F temperatures and 92% humidity and I was wondering whether it was all that different from what Regee was experiencing in Manila. We found refuge in a quaint little bakery for lunch and then braved the afternoon heat again. We also braved monsoonal rains on the way home. It was a relief to get back to Pawleys Island and jump in the pool--at 9.30 p.m.
