Home Alone

During the recent Christmas break, Regee and I had four days "home alone" with Veronica, Max and Charlie the Beast.  Their minders had all gone off to Charleston, South Carolina, for a well-earned rest.

Giant gingerbread house (10 ft tall & 1300 lbs)
at Marriott Marquis Hotel in DC

We had a great time with them and visited a giant gingerbread house (above), playgrounds, museums, local parks and, don’t tell the parents, ate forbidden food like ice cream and pizza!

Click on “Read more” below for a few more photos.

Regee slept downstairs with the kids; but
look who I got to sleep with--Charlie!

Veronica loved the Hirschhorn Sculpture Garden
in DC and Henry Moore’s “King and Queen"

In spite of my vehement objections, Lola
insisted on buying ice cream!

At the Air & Space Museum, the only place
to eat was Macdonald’s.  They loved it.

Paul came around to help out one day.  He played
with them in the basement until he passed out.

Here are the gang having lunch at Raku in Glover Park.
The food was excellent.

Veronica at Raku after a lot of edamame, miso soup
and, her absolute favorite, shumai (siomai)

At the Air & Space Museum, the kids loved
the (not) "Snoopy and the Red Baron" plane

 At the Washington National Cathedral,
they clambered up the rope obstacle course

This is the big, scary slide they made me go down with them.
Then they went by themselves 5 times!

And whenever they got hungry, Lola went to
the supermarket with them to get more food.

The last night, we gave Lola a break.  I got a
big cheese pizza from the Sfize Cafe nearby.

Lola didn’t want to give them back!  It is very quiet around here
and I’m missing my pizza and ice cream.....
