Ice Storm Hits the North-East

The North East was hit by a big ice storm last night.  It is eerily quiet outside this morning--not much traffic and the birds are slipping off the tree branches.  I even had to de-ice the bird feeder!

These look like Xmas lights but are actually just the frozen berries on our Crepe Myrtle tree.  In spite of the ice, my winter pansies (below) are trying to survive.

The main problem now is large sheets of ice sliding off the roof.  I was photographing this branch of icicles below when there was a huge crash behind me--a big slab of ice had just missed me.  Another near death experience.  Watching Mitt Romney on TV the other day was the last one I had.

Stay warm and stay safe if you are in the North East of the States.  I just heard on the radio that in parts of north Texas (yes, Texas) they are experiencing overnight temperatures of -40F!!
