In my last blog, I mentioned that I could not get to Great Falls after Hurricane Sandy because the overview was closed. I got there two days later and while the water had fallen about 15-20 feet from its high point, the Potomac River was still in full flood.
Compare the picture below taken on October 12 early in the morning........
.......to this picture taken on November 2. The Potomac River looks swollen and angry alright.
And now the NY Times tells me this morning that "a northeaster, projected to land midweek, may hit the already battered coastal areas with heavy winds and strong waves that could cause more flooding"
Holy Mackerel, won't global weirding let up just long enough to dig out from the last disaster? Many of those poor folks in New York, New Jersey and further north are without homes; still more are without power; and just about everyone on the northeast coast has bought more bottled water, batteries and crank radios than they know what to do with.
We don't need a Nor'easter right now. If you have any doubts about this, just read Wikipedia's entry on their prior visits at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nor'easter
Courtesy Wikipedi. This shows the Nor'easter that brought us the Great Blizzard of 2006.
